Save a tree, don’t print a document in order to fax it

Something in the whole chain of sending a fax is bothering me.

I have an electronic document that I have to send to someone who only has a fax machine (I suspect there are weirdos out there, like my flex spending plan manager, who will not accept emails).

I have to print the document, go to a fax machine, send it electronically so it can (most likely) be printed again (even though I suspect they actually store it in electronic format).

But I just found out Vonage has a nifty service, http://v-fax.vonage.com, that lets you fax documents from your computer. I believe you need to have a Vonage account though.

  1. Any free versions of this service out there?

I wonder if google has anything. They seems to be bent on providing all the services the web can offer.

  2. efax.com has a free fax service but I think it’s incoming only (and non-local but who cares). Their Pro service IIRC allows you to send faxes via email, guess it depends on how often you use it if it’s worth $16 or whatever it costs.

course you could also probably setup hylafax and do it yourself…
